Management is the art of knowing what you want to do and then seeing that it is done in the best and cheapest way.

- It is intangible because presence can be felt.

- Staffing
- Directing
- Controlling and Coordination
Levels of Management –
Levels of management determines
- A chain of commands.
- The amount of authority and status.

Types of levels of Management –
Top Level (President, Chairman, Vice-President)
- Lays down the objectives and broad policies of the enterprise.
- Appoints the executive for middle level.
- Controls and coordinates the activities of all departments.
- Provides guidance and direction.
- Responsible for maintaining a contact with outside world.
- Prepare strategic plans.
Middle Level (Branch Managers, Department Heads)
- Execute the plans of the organization in accordance with the policies made by top level.
- Make plans for sub units.
- Coordinate activities within the department.
- Sent reports and other data to top level management.
- Evaluate the performance of Junior Manager.
- Inspire lower level manager towards better performance.
Lower Level (Foremen and Supervisors)
- Classify and assign jobs to the worker.
- Direct and guide the workers about work procedures.
- Arrange necessary tools, equipment, and material for workers.
- Provide on the job training to workers.
- To build the morale of workers so that they can contribute their maximum effort.
- Solve the problem of workers and maintain good human relations.
